The best person for the job

There are a number of variations on this question, e.g.:

• Why are you the best candidate for this job?
• Why do you think you are the best fit for this position?

This is when you get to sell yourself to the interviewer. Think of it as closing the deal. To be persuasive, include the following in your answer:

• Emphasize your key skills, strengths, talents, work experience, and professional achievements that are fundamental to doing well in this position.
• Describe your personal and professional traits that make you a great addition to the team.
• Research what problems they've had before, what new issues or goals they have now, and how your specific skills and experience can contribute directly to solutions.
• Show them your enthusiasm and positive attitude towards your responsibilities in the position.

TIP: Use active language to add strength and energy to your answer. Active language includes:

• Active voice—the subject performs the action on the object [S-V-O], rather than the object having the action done to it [O-V-S]. For example:
  • "I chose the materials." [active]
  • "The materials were chosen by me." [passive]
•  Strong verbs—better and more descriptive verbs for a basic action, e.g.,
  • make = create, build, develop, generate.
  • lead = deliver, drive, motivate, inspire.
• Definitive language—stating a certainty rather than a possibility, e.g.,
  • "In this position, I will..." [certainty]
  • "In this position, I could..." [possibility]
